Wordsplosion iPhone Game Review

A fun addicting test for your mind

I was recently asked to review the iphone game “Wordsplosion” by Concrete Software. Picture hangman with only 5 letter words and no hangman all with a timer and cool graphics and you pretty much get Wordsplosion. It’s a fun addicting word game that I think a lot of people are going to enjoy playing. So here’s the scoop….

How you play?

The game starts and you gives you a 5 letter word to guess right. The game also gives you the first letter. You get 5 chances to guess the correct word. There’s also a timer that times each chance and when the timer runs out if you haven’t guessed a word you lose the chance to guess on that turn. Each time you guess the game keeps track of the words and letters you guessed right and puts them in the letter slots if the word you guessed happened to also have the same letters in the proper spot. However if you guess the correct letters but they aren’t in the correct spot it also tells you that and you have to guess what spot to put that letter into. Eventually you either guess the correct letter or you run out of chances to guess. The game also provides occasional hints to you that allow you to click a question mark button and the game tells you what one of the letters of the word you are working on is. You get hints after guessing so many words correctly and filling your blue power bar up. From this description I think you can see what i mean when i say it’s like hangman. It has letters, you guess words and keep track of previous words and letters guessed. That’s hangman. What isn’t hangman is there isnt’ a noose or hangman’s gallows and you only get 5 letter words. Also there’s no timers in hangman usually and you get as many chances as it takes to get hung! So it’s LIKE hangman!

The Good and The Bad

I have to be honest there’s isn’t really any bad to this game per se. There’s no bugs, it’s fun, it looks and sounds great, it does exactly what the game creators says it does, and it’s definitely not boring! That being said my only criticism is that I want more game! It only has 5 letter words. If I were to give them any advice it would be to come up with different skill levels that feature larger words in future updates. Also come up with some cool things players can earn like more time, a free letter, etc….stuff like that in my opinion adds to the value of the game and keeps users playing longer. Maybe a head to head version would also be cool. All things to consider with future versions of this game. But as it stands right now it’s still a fun game and i would highly recommend anyone who likes word games to get it from the app store when it comes out.
