Picture Guessing Game with Friends:

TryGuessThis is a new iPhone Game from Fruitbar Entertainment that pits you against your friends as well as random strangers, if you should choose to play them, in a picture and word hunting game that is pretty fun and somewhat challenging to say the least. The app connects you with friends on facebook and twitter as well as email.

Functionality

The game itself is bug free from what I can see. I didn’t see anything that stood out as a glitch and the game never crashed when i was using it. The social features worked as expected and the game play was smooth as long as the internet connection or network connection I was using was not too slow. There was some slow responsiveness when the connection was slow but that is not a problem with the game as much as it is an issue with my piss poor internet connection. So over all this game had no functionality problems.

Appearance

The game graphics are pretty comparable to many of the other online multiplayer games. This is not the type of game that needs great 3d graphics or anything like that. That being said I think the screens are very easy to read, clean, and look great for the type of game this is. The fonts are very nicely done, easy to read and the screens flow from one to the other without any kind of issues. The icons and fonts used are big, bold, and are not confusing in any way. There is a settings page that gives the user the ability to control sound volume level. Users can also turn notifications on or off, turn the ability to save photos to the library on or off as well. Also from this screen they can change account settings, give feedback, and read the about screen that talks a little bit more about the game itself. Overall I feel this game looks clean, neat, and just as one would expect it to look.

Playability

TryGuessThis is a nice game but I’m not so sure it’s all that much fun. I think it’s one of those iPhone games that’s fun to play for a few minutes but then you kind of forget about it until you get a notification that one of your friends played their turn and now it’s yours. I like to think of games like this like long distance chess. You take a turn, tell your friend who has a game board on their end, moves the piece to wear you told them and then begins thinking of their next move. This could take them days, weeks, or even months. I doubt anyone will take months to complete a turn of TryGuessThis but they definitely could take a day or even a week to get back to you. This to me is one of the downfalls of any type of social game like this. Your fun relies on your partners participation. However you can play with multiple partners so hopefully if there’s one slow poke in your list there might also be some people who are really into the game, that play fast and often, and keep the game flow going. Another issue i have with TryGuessThis is when you first start the game there isn’t much too tell you what you are supposed to do. I think they could use a better system to inform new players how to play. Not a major deal to some because there are those out there that like to figure out games on their own. I could see others getting confused or frustrated and giving up on it as well. One of the cool features of the game is the image effects you can buy from the shop that allow you to maniuplate your photos to make the game more challenging. Some effects for sale are “tilt, blocks, bricks, bubbles, and theres a lot more.” There’s also a section in the shop that says there are more features coming soon so the promise of new, fun features makes this game one that you might want to check out sometime.

The price is perfect! It’s FREE! You really can’t beat FREE! Did I mention it was FREE??

Overall Review

TryGuessThis is a functionally sound game that looks good is fun some of the time and priced at the perfect price point. FREE! Overall I think this game is worth a look and for some might be a fun addition to your social gaming page of apps like words with friends, songpop, and scramble with friends. Go check it out.
