One of the more unique iPhone apps I’ve used in a long time was given to me for review this week. The app is called “ApeMe” Face Mask App v1.0. The slogan on the about screen pretty much says it all too. “Realistic Ape Mask Photo Fun With Sharing Via Facebook, Twitter, and Email. That’s exactly what it does.
Monkey See Monkey Do
|
So you want to be a monkey eh? Fine there’s an app for that! ApeMe takes full advantage of the iPhone’s cameras (front and back) as well as lets you use a previously taken photo as well. It’s pretty simple to use. You click start and a nice helpful screen pops up that not only tells you what to do if you’re
going to take a picture of yourself but it also allows you to choose from camera mode or previous photo mode. Lets say you pick camera. The camera pops up only over the top of the camera screen is a nice face silhouette that acts a a guide for you. So when you’re getting ready to shoot a pic of your melon you know exactly how much melon to put in the shot hehehe. Don’t be afraid of the scary guy in the picture. He’s harmless!
Once you have your face lined up shoot the pic and the app goes to work. If you don’t line it up right at all it will tell you it didn’t work. If you do have it lined up well you will be blessed with a picture of yourself in ape form! It’s a bit odd yet very entertaining.
Share Your Photo and Freak People Out
Once you’ve got yourself “monkeyfied” you can share this picture to your twitter followers, facebook page, or email by tapping the picture and clicking one of the icons at the bottom of the page. You can also trash the photo if you don’t like it by tapping the garbage can in the bottom left corner.
Bananas For Thought (bananas = food for monkeys…food for thought)
so i’m not a comedian. If i was I wouldn’t be online writing reviews of iPhone apps. I would be on stage at the local chuckle hut telling jokes for a living. But i’m going to quit monkeying around (oh brother!!) and tell you what I think the developers should do to add more fun to the app. Here’s a few suggestions:
- Add different monkeys to the mix. Let the user pick from Ape to Silverback to Orangutan to Chimp for more fun.
-Maybe add some monkey sounds
-Props to put in the shot or backgrounds to add to the monkey pics would be cool too.
Getting Down to MonkeyBusiness (omg i just can’t stop)
This app is one of a long list of entertainment apps that nobody really needs but everybody loves to play with. Its so cool to be able to see yourself as a monkey. It reminds me of another app I reviewed a while back too. Lots of fun. It could use some more zing factor but it’s a nice app that does what it’s supposed to do. Entertain the user.
