LinqQ iPhone App Language Tutor

So you want to learn a new language eh? You could go to a college course for it! You could also buy one of those big software packages that cost hundreds of dollars! You could hire a tutor which could cost even more! My advice to you would be to check out the iPhone app LingQ.  It’s free and you might just learn something.

When i first started using LingQ I was amazed at how many languages someone could learn using this app. Languages such as:

lingq lessons page
  • English,
  • Arabic,
  • Bokmål,
  • Norwegian,
  • Catalan,
  • Czech,
  • Danish,
  • Dutch
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Greek
  • Hebrew
  • Hungarian
  • Indonesian
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Malay
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Romanian
  • Russian
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Chinese
  • Slovak
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
  • Thai
  • Traditional Chinese
  • Turkish
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese

So as you can see there’s only a “FEW” languages you can learn.  I kid I kid. There’s a ton of them! Variety aside lets talk about the look and feel of the app.  It looks like one would expect a lesson app to look.  Once you choose your language there are a list of lessons you can choose from ranging from beginner to expert.  These lessons feature easy sentences to complex paragraphs that users can listen to and repeat.  There are also screens where users can see and listen to a work and then see the definition of the word and how it would be used in a sentence.  It’s very easy to use and definitely helps when trying to figure out something as hard as a new language.

Functionality wise would be where I have some issues with this app.  When i first tried to use this app it crashed.  I even restarted my iPhone and it crashed again later on while I was using it.  I’m not sure if it was a network issue or a coding issue but it definitely brings down my opinion of the app.  I also had trouble loading a lesson while I was using the app as well. Don’t get me wrong though.  I was able to use it and go through lessons most of the time.  It was just a bit buggy and could use some coding improvement.  Also I should warn everyone that since I upgraded to iOS8 on my iPhone 5 the app doesn’t work at all.  It’s probably just an update to be iOS8 compatible.

Overall I think this app is good and definitely could help people learn a new language in the comfort of their own home without an huge out of pocket expense.  So I give this app….

3 out of 5 stars!
