Scanner, Reader, and Storage

PDF Reader for the iPad is a multi-purpose application for the iPad that allows the user full functionality in the areas of pdf scanning, reading, and storage.  For pdf viewing it gives the user easy ways to zoom in and out.  It also helps with reading through use of the speedy scrolling bar.   Users can also jump to from one image to another quickly and easily as well as jump from page to page using PDF Reader’s controls.  Users can search text for any keyword within the text.   Once search results are found they are highlighted in yellow for easy scanning of the text for the areas where the word you are looking for has been found.   Copy and paste text from PDF files is also very easy with PDF reader.   Simply highlight the text you are looking to copy and tap the copy button.   You can paste the text to any other iPhone app such as Notes, Emails, or the Safari browser.

add stickynotesReading PDF files is also something PDF Reader should do well and let me tell you it doesn’t disappoint.  First there’s the auto flow feature that lets you read the PDF without having to touch the screen.  It focuses on automatically scroll the PDF file to the next line and will also help you scrolling down pages without touching the screen as well.  You can check the file info for any PDF using PDF reader as well.  This is extremely convenient and keeps you going without having to stop and look up files on another system.  Outlines are cool for studying as well as getting the gist of an article or any pdf item without having to read the entire article.  However this feature only works when the PDF file contains an outline.  Items like images aren’t usually carrying an outline with them so they won’t work.

Manage Files Like A Ninja!

Air Print is fully supported in PDF Reader for the iPad and that is cool.  It just rocks to be able to print when you need to. No more transferring files from the iPad to a PC or Mac to print!  Another cool necessity that PDF Reader app handles well is PDF Forms functionality.  You can open them, fill them out, change them, and create them all from the friendly confines of the PDF Reader iPad app.  The five formats supported by PDF reader are text forms, check boxes, radio buttons, combo boxes, and list boxes.  The PDF Reader app allows you to work and play all with the flick of a writst.

zoom in and out of filesFiles can be managed with PDF Reader by tapping the edit button on the file library.  Once you do each file has a check box next to it.  Select the check box of the file you want to edit.  Once done editing you save it.  Users can also move and copy files to different folders as well.  Another feature is the ability to keep things private by placing all files inside of a private folder for safe keeping.   Users can also set a password for a private folder as well.

Importing images using PDF Reader is a snap!  Simple tap the image button on the toolbar and the app does the rest.  Place your image anyplace within the PDF you want it to be. Another cool feature is the ability to Scan and save almost any type of file or image as a PDF file through the use of the iPad’s 8 megapixel camera. Just point, shoot, and scan…poof you have a PDF! No more taking notes from one place and typing it into another. This is just point and shoot. It rocks!

Take Notes Within PDFs

Adding comments within PDF files is a breeze with PDF reader.  There is functionality there for highlighting, as well as drawing circles and lines from one object to another to annotate any PDF you are reading.  Users can also add bookmarks to sections they find particularly interesting to keep them from getting forgotten.  One of the cooler techniques I’ve found for taking notes is the ability to add a sticky note within the PDF.  This is so cool because it keeps your data there on the page without taking up too much space.  Love the sticky notes.   There is also functionality that allows you to draw freehand notes on any page within a PDF.  Got a page you want someone to pay special attention to just write their name on it and they will.

The Bottom Line

PDF Reader for the iPad is a full featured PDF reading solution offering file reading, file transferring, file management, as well as a powerful PDF annotation system.  This is a full featured application that anyone in business will get tons of use out of and anyone using this personally or in a educational setting should be more than satisfied with their options.  I would highly recommend PDF Reader for the iPad to anyone looking for a PDF reading application.
